Face ID on the iPhone 17 relies on a TrueDepth sensor cluster across the top of the display assembly. When we replace the screen we transfer that flex onto the new panel — done correctly Face ID continues to work, done with the wrong tooling and you get a permanent "Face ID not active" notice.
