Notes from our workshop — what we see on Apple MacBook

Real observations from our certified technicians — the things you only learn after thousands of repairs on the same model. No marketing spin, just what we actually deal with every day.

Panel-only repair vs. full display assembly

Many shops only sell the full display assembly because it's faster (and pricier). For a cracked MacBook Air 13" or MacBook Pro 14" panel we can usually replace the LCD only, keeping your original hinges, antenna and lid logo — saving $250-$400 and reducing e-waste. The job takes us ~3 hours and we test colour gamut, brightness uniformity and True Tone before returning the laptop.

Swollen MacBook batteries — yes, this is common

If your MacBook's trackpad has stopped clicking properly or the bottom case bulges, it's almost always a swollen battery cell pressing up against the trackpad. We see this most on 2018-2020 MacBook Pros. Replacement uses an OEM-grade cell glued in with the correct adhesive (some shops use 3M tape, which the case rejects within months) and we recalibrate the battery with `pmset` before handover.

Liquid damage on M1 / M2 MacBooks

Apple-silicon MacBooks have a much denser logic board than Intel models — a small spill can short multiple rails before you notice. The first 24 hours matter most. Don't try to power it on; turn it off and bring it in. We do an ultrasonic clean of the affected area and a component-level rebuild where needed, rather than replacing the entire logic board. About 70% of M1/M2 spill cases recover this way.

Keyboards on the new MagSafe MacBook Air aren't user-serviceable

The 2022+ MacBook Air keyboard is riveted to the top case, not screwed. A single sticky key isn't a key swap — it's a top-case-and-battery assembly replacement. We're honest about this upfront. Sometimes a cleaning + recalibration fixes the symptom; if not, we'll quote the full part properly and explain why.

T2 / Apple-silicon and 'unauthorised display' warnings

Macs with T2 chip or Apple silicon will trigger a system warning if the display module isn't recognised. We use display assemblies that pair correctly with the System Management Controller — the customer never sees the warning. Where parts have to be paired (battery, trackpad, Touch ID) we run Apple's Service Toolkit pairing process via Apple Configurator before handover.

Our promise

Why Choose iRepair Experts

How a Brisbane repair should feel — diagnosed, quoted and fixed by humans who actually care about your device.

12-Month Warranty — IMEI on file

Every part we fit and every minute of labour is covered for 12 full months. Screen ghosts, battery swells, port fails — anything we touched, we fix free at any of our three Brisbane stores. No receipts to dig up; your IMEI is on file.

Bench-trained specialists

Our senior techs trained at OEM-authorised repair centres before opening here. Every iPhone, MacBook and Galaxy on the bench is worked on by someone who's already done that exact repair hundreds of times — not a teenager's first week.

Same-day, in & out

Phone screens and batteries: 45–90 minutes, done while you wait. MacBook displays, batteries and keyboards: same-day on the common SKUs. Board-level rescues and rare-part jobs: usually next-day, sometimes overnight — always quoted upfront.

Three part tiers — your call

Every quote lists three options side-by-side: Incell LCD (budget), Soft OLED (most popular) and Genuine-OEM (factory spec). You see the price for each and pick what fits — no bait-and-switch to a cheaper part after you've said yes.

Transparent pricing

MacBook pricing — no surprises

Price range
$299$799AUD

MacBook Air and Pro repairs in Brisbane start from $129 for trackpad service up to $799 for Retina display replacements. Genuine parts, skilled specialists, and a 12-month warranty on every job.

What affects your price
  • 01

    Screen size & generation

13" MacBook Air assemblies sit in the $299–$449 range, 15"/16" MacBook Pro Retina + ProMotion displays go up to $799 because of the Liquid Retina XDR panel.

  • 02

    Component vs assembly

Many shops only sell full assembly swaps. We also offer panel-only and hinge-only repairs where suitable — usually cheaper and more sustainable.

  • 03

    Logic board involvement

Keyboard, battery and trackpad are flat-rate. Logic-board-level repairs (liquid damage, GPU, T2) are quoted after a paid diagnostic so you only pay for what the fix actually needs.

How we repair your MacBook

Same routine for every device that lands on the bench — diagnose, quote, fix, retest. No shortcuts.

Free 20-point bench diagnostic

Free on-the-spot diagnostic that checks battery health, hidden water indicators, True Tone status, every sensor and a touch-grid stress test. You see the actual fault on screen before any quote — never an estimate.

Written quote, signed off

A written quote with the part tier you picked, labour estimate and same-day vs next-day timeline. You sign before we open the device. Whatever you saw at the start is what you pay at pickup.

Calibrated-bench repair

Repair runs on calibrated gear: torque-controlled drivers (so screws never strip), ESD-safe mat, hot-plate at 65 °C for clean adhesive release. Each component is tested as it goes back in — not just at the end.

Full QA before handover

Final QA covers Face ID, True Tone, multi-touch, all 4 mics, both speakers, every camera lens, every sensor, wireless charging and a quick charge-discharge cycle. Photos at start and end go on your repair record.

Privacy-first

Your data, treated with respect

Your phone holds your life. We treat it like we would want our own treated — locked drawer, signed-out accounts, no nosy looks.

Device stays locked — always

We never ask for your passcode, PIN or Face ID. Every repair is done with the device locked. If a sign-in is required to verify a feature, we hand it back to you to do it.

Locked cabinet, key access only

Devices left overnight go straight into a CCTV-covered, key-locked cabinet at the back of the workshop. Staff never take customer devices home.

Chain-of-custody log on every job

We timestamp who received it, who worked on it and who handed it back. The log includes photos at intake and after each part swap — you can ask to see it any time.

No cloud, no backups, no snooping

We don't open Photos, Messages, banking apps, or sign into iCloud / Google. Repair Wi-Fi is isolated from anything personal. Data recovery is a separate, signed service — never automatic.
